Special Choice

I was recently asked which one of my recordings I like best or even more precise: which work or movement is my personal favourite amongst all my CDs.
An interesting question, I never had thought about it myself.
It was also a bit surprising that within 20 seconds I knew the answer: the slow movement from Arnold Bax’s 3rd Sonata.
This most archetypical Bax movement with its mesmerising English song in the midst of it, which then gets gradually taken apart. This movement always was very special to me. It embodies all kind of imagery about the UK, its beautiful, often dramatic landscape, the glory of English folksongs, old legends, the whole caboodle…
Anyway, here it is.
A very special piece of music. ( The glorious Chorale starts at 3.10 min ).
