I have a ( probably unhealthy ) livelong obsession with Heinrich von Kleist, one of Germany’s most interesting, but also problematic writers of the 19th century.
The groundbreaking critical edition of his works has been a never ending delight, as in Kleist each comma, each nuance of a sentence is critical. The Brandenburg edition ( “Brandenburger Ausgabe” )
has taken care of that and has also refused to ‘edit’ his works, but present them in the state they were left behind according to the most authentic sources available.
Here is an interesting article about one of his most memorable early dramas: ‘Die Familie Schroffenstein’ from the excellent “Public Domain Review” website.
